New Beginnings

DSCN4139It was about nine months ago that Ryan sent me a text asking one of the most exciting questions that I could ever imagine. The answer came quickly…

imageConsidering that I’d spent the better part of three years describing to him just how much I wanted to live abroad again, and trying to convince him why this was an experience that we needed to have, I was thrilled.

Of course, I was also more than a bit skeptical.

The details of the position were initially vague and, even if he did get it, were we really ready to uproot our lives and move the more than 10,000 miles from Boston to Sydney? Was I prepared to give up a great job only to find myself unemployed in one of the most expensive cities in the world so far away from everything I knew?

Even though going back abroad was something I’d been pushing for for such a long time — after more than 12 years in Boston I was ready for a change — I really had to warm up to the idea once it became clear that this was really going to happen. Considering Ryan had never lived more than a couple of hours away from home, aside from six weeks in Spain after college, I think it was a lot for him to wrap his head around, too.

Fast forward to February 2014 and we are just a couple of days away from embarking on our three-year Aussie adventure. The goal of this blog is to document what I know is going to be an amazing experience and to help bridge the gap between the lives we are leaving behind and the new ones that we are about to embrace.

Whether you’re a friend, a family member, or someone who just happened to stumble upon this blog, I hope that you enjoy readying it and following our lives as Sydneysiders.
